William T. Cefalu, MD - Co-Chair

Dr Cefalu is Chief of the Division of Nutrition and Chronic Diseases and the Douglas L. Manship Senior Professor of Diabetes at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in the Louisiana State University System in Baton Rouge. Prior to that, Dr Cefalu served as Director of the Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Previously, he served as an associate professor of medicine and, for almost a decade, as Director of the Diabetes Comprehensive Care and Research Programs at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 

Dr Cefalu is currently principal investigator on both basic and clinical studies funded by the National Institutes of Health to investigate mechanisms for insulin resistance and is Director of the NIH-funded Center for the Study of Botanicals and Metabolic Syndrome at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center.  He is on the Board of Directors of the Council for the Advancement of Diabetes Research and Education (CADRE), serving as Co-Chair.  Dr Cefalu is a past associate editor for Diabetes Care and currently serves as Associate Editor of Diabetes and as a reviewer for several journals. His publications include the first and second editions of Practical Guide to Diabetes Management, The CADRE Handbook of Diabetes Management, chapters in several books, and numerous journal articles and abstracts. Dr Cefalu is a featured speaker at lectures and presentations around the world.
